Everyone is Creative

One of my best friends, who I have always admired and find very creative, recently told me that she doesn’t think she is creative person (you know who you are). Which is not the first time I’ve heard this from someone I really admire for their creativity. I feel like people compare themselves to someone who is an artist or a designer, and come to the conclusion that they are not. Which is completely untrue!

I want to start off by saying this. Just because you are NOT an artist, doesn’t mean you aren’t creative. Life in itself is an act of creativity. Everything you choose to do is creative in some capacity.

When you go through your day, what actions do you actively participate in? Can you recognize that there’s a certain amount of creativity involved in each and every choice you make? Intentionality itself is a big part of your creativity, you might have just not recognized it as such.

Here’s some examples of every day activities that actually require creativity:

  • How do you choose what you wear each day?

  • What do you cook for yourself or choose to eat?

  • Are you a list maker?

  • What about a recent vacation you planned?

  • How do you engage with other people?

  • Do you make them laugh?

  • Do you offer them advice?

When you view life as an act of creativity, a ton of opportunities become available to you, and mindfulness will begin to permeate your everyday existence. By embracing mindfulness and paying attention to how you move through your day, you’ll naturally become more purposeful in creating your life path. Your intentional choices shape the framework for how your life unfolds, and every moment presents a new opportunity to express your creativity! Everyone is creative, you just need to shift your perspective a lil bit.
